Start Movember off right with the Shave Down in the Nest tomorrow

Do you know the best thing about the day after Halloween? No, it's not the discount Halloween candy — it's the start of Movember. Indeed, tomorrow is the beginning of a glorious time for men (and women!) to show off their best moustache and more in order to raise awareness and money for prostate cancer research.

First of all, to all the participants and organizers taking part in this event, congratulations and thank you! You’re participating in a great cause.

This year, UBC Movember and the AMS would like to give a little bit back to you. On November 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a first annual “Shave Down” in the Nest for any participant who wants a clean shave before sporting a furry caterpillar for the next month. Even if you’re planning on just shaving your beard and keeping your moustache, you’re able to join in on the festivities.

Since the start of Movember just over 10 years ago, the organization has raised over $850 million dollars and $175 million of that has come from Canada. The goal of this project, as UBC is such a large university, is to contribute significantly to the donations. Last year, UBC raised $68,000, which is phenomenal, but this year we’re hoping to top it!

If you're interested in having your stylish facial hair featured in an upcoming Ubyssey article, email a.nguyen@ubyssey.ca to book an appointment for a studio photo and a short, one-minute interview!
