Jack spends a large, almost depressing portion of his time at The Ubyssey, where he grumbles about the Board of Governors and hassles the nice people at Access and Privacy. People have let him work at the CBC, National Post and Globe and Mail because Canadian journalism is in a worse place than you thought. A favourite late-night study spot for thousands of UBC students, the cafe will be fondly remembered for its high ceilings, rustic wooden furniture and stellar selection of caffeinated drinks and home-cooked food.

The Ubyssey received seven nominations for the John H. McDonald awards. We won three, thanks to the hard work of our web developer Peter Siemens, our photo editor from last year Kosta Prodanovic and all-star staff illustrator Jerry Yin.

This year was a hectic one for the world and UBC was no exception. The university saw a quick end to a rookie president's tenure, followed by the election of a new one, bringing with him a cult of personality.

Whatever trials and tribulations we face, and however difficult it will be to explain 2016 to our grandchildren, we can take solace in the fact that one universal truth remains certain: students love reading about sex.
