Hoping to draw a wide audience of students, faculty and staff alike to the event, the UMI is collaborating with Heart of the City Piano Program and Shine On Music to organize an evening tailored for UBC’s music lovers.

Dozens of UBC students and community members gathered yesterday at the flagpole near the Rose Garden to mobilize against increasing costs of post-secondary education in Canada and the “price tag” put on attending UBC.

A high-risk sex offender wanted Canada-wide was arrested at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, at a construction site near 16th Avenue and Wesbrook Mall. He does not match the description of the suspect in the recent sexual assault at UBC.

“I think governance is always somewhat expressive of the gang that are there doing it at any one point in time,” said Belkin. “At this point in my thinking I would be inclined to the view that it’s more a stylistic issue than a structural issue.”

Practically speaking, the no confidence motion does not have any immediate discernible effects — the Board of Governors does not technically need the confidence of the faculty to continue functioning.

The incident took place at around 10 p.m. on Friday night. RCMP believe it may be connected to a string of five events that have been reported since March 23 where a male of similar description was seen lurking in female residences.

Greg Peet, a provincially-appointed member of the UBC Board of Governors, is currently in court appealing a December 2015 ruling that a company he owned dodged over $1 million in provincial taxes in 2002, a UBC Insiders investigation found.

The biggest difference between UBCO and UBC Vancouver is that from its very inception, the former had an understanding with the local Indigenous groups. UBC Vancouver has been playing catch-up with UBCO in how to engage with Indigenous communities.

Reasons cited on her blog post announcing her decision include a belief that the committee is not willing to “hear the concerns of faculty and learn from mistakes of the recent past to improve the future of UBC.”

“Aside from the occasional emotional meltdown, I’m having a really good time. I’m learning about all the fun positions out there and all the ways that you can hate somebody. I never knew it was so dynamic, so multifaceted. No one’s ever happy.”

Veronica Knott and Aaron Bailey will be representing students next year on the UBC Board of Governors. Knott served as BoG representative for students last year, and Bailey served as AMS president in 2015-16.

Her win came as something of a surprise to her — she told The Ubyssey that she hadn't been expecting it. “I had no idea. Jenna is so phenomenal and amazing and talented and hard-working that I had absolutely no idea, it was hard to judge,” she said.

The debate tonight involved more challenging questions for incumbent Veronica Knott, Aaron Bailey and Reda El Maazi. The most politically interesting part of the night was when Katic pushed Knott on her record as board member in the past year.

The presidential debate tonight saw a focus on the two frontrunners in the race: Ava Nasiri and Jenna Omassi. Aloha Dave revealed plans to create an AMS Airforce to fly the UBC Symphony Orchestra around for an American tour.

“I am the only candidate who has tangible plans to carry out their promises and has proven that I can carry out the goals and promises I made to students. I’m realistic, I’m hard working and I … won’t promise things I can’t get done.”
