Steven Galloway has issued a statement through his lawyer on his suspension and subsequent firing from his position as chair of UBC’s creative writing program, speaking on the issue for the first time.

“We definitely recognize that this is a really big issue in terms of spending, so we were able to cover it through our surplus, but mainly it came out of the student life portfolio,” said Marina Tischenko, AUS VP Finance.

The committee will “work with existing groups and/or establish representative subcommittees to accomplish specific tasks related to creating an effective response to sexual assault through education, prevention and awareness."
Yesterday, former UBC student Glynnis Kirchmeier, who filed a human rights complaint against the university for its handling of sexual assault reports earlier this year, met with the university in an attempt to resolve the complaint.
