As wildfires worsen due to climate change, the great impact they have on the economy is coming into sharper focus. Meanwhile, with worse fires, more money is spent on fighting them, with less available for prevention. Having reported on the Alberta and BC wildfires and its economic impact on the provinces, Lou lays out the case for an upward spiral toward ever-increasing wildfire costs. About Ethan Lou: Ethan Lou is a writer based in Calgary, Alberta. His work appears in newspapers such as the Toronto Star and the Washington Post and magazines such as Maclean’s, The Walrus and Maisonneuve. He was previously a journalist with Reuters. An early investor in Bitcoin, he is also senior partner at the cryptocurrency firm Ocuis.
