Block Party 2020 is cancelled due to COVID-19 outbreak

AMS Events has just announced that Block Party 2020 has been cancelled due to concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

The announcement was made via a Facebook post on March 12 and comes shortly after BC health authorities recommended gatherings of more than 250 people be cancelled to try to contain the spread of the virus earlier today.

"Your AMS is very much aware of what's going on around the globe with regards to the COVID-19 pandemic and it is with great sadness that we announce that Block Party 2020 is officially cancelled," reads the post. Representatives from the AMS did not respond to requests for comment by press time.

This year's line-up featured the artists Blackbear, RL Grime, Manila Grey and a "UBC Artist" who was to be determined through a song contest.

The post also outlines that the AMS is currently working with ticket purchasers to issue refunds for those who bought tickets.

This is an evolving story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
