AMS general manager resigns after eight years

According to an update on the AMS website posted in late February, Ross Horton, the general manager of the AMS, has resigned.

Horton appears to have left under good terms. In an email to staff, AMS president Aaron Bailey said he “would like to personally thank Ross for his hard work, dedication and commitment to supporting the students of UBC and the student leadership of the AMS.”

According to Bailey, the resignation came only from Horton himself and the reasons are unknown to the rest of the AMS.

“He didn’t really give us a reason as to why he chose to leave, but it’s up to him,” said Bailey.

Until a permanent replacement can be found, Keith Hester, the director of finance and administration, will be serving as interim manager. The permanent hiring process will not start, however, until after the AMS governance review is completed.

“In the context of that review, we’ll be looking at the position and its duties as well as the management reporting structure on that side of the organization and once that review is completed … we’ll start the hiring process,” said Bailey.
