Employee injured in attempted robbery at campus liquor store, suspect at large

An attempted theft at Parkway Liquor Store in University Village led to a fight between an employee and the suspect outside the store.

At around 9:50 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, the suspect entered the store and tried to steal vodka and rum, said Farhan Muhib, an employee at the store.

Muhib wasn’t present when the incident took place but saw the surveillance footage.

His co-worker followed the suspect outside and attempted to recover the goods, leading to a physical altercation. The worker was injured.

Muhib described the suspect as a young, tall male wearing a hoodie, cap and a backpack. He appeared to be unarmed, although Muhib said he was “punching” and “kicking.”

“He didn’t really have any weapons, or else it would have been devastating,” said Muhib.

Muhib said RCMP were unable to apprehend the suspect at the time.

Campus RCMP have yet to provide a statement on the matter.

“It was a little bit shocking to see how they got into a fight outside. That guy really punched [my coworker],” Muhib said.

“These kind of things don’t really happen that often on campus.”

This is a developing story and will be updated if more information comes to light.
