High-risk sex offender arrested on UBC campus

Jason Anthony White, a high-risk sex offender wanted Canada-wide, was arrested by police at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, at a construction site near 16th Avenue and Wesbrook Mall.

White, also known as Jason Eugene Ridero, was designated as high-risk in 1994 after he broke into the home of a 74-year-old woman in Nanaimo, sexually assaulted her and robbed her. He eventually successfully appealed this designation and was released on long-term supervision order.

The most recent warrant for his arrest was issued when he failed to check in with his supervisor.

According to Randy Fincham, media spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department, he was located in the early hours of the morning after Block Party with the help of a K-9 unit.

White is a person of interest to investigators looking into an attempted home invasion in the Oakridge area last week. He does not match the description of the suspect in the recent sexual assault at UBC.
