Human bone found in Pacific Spirit Park

University RCMP were called to Pacific Spirit Park on Friday after a family dog discovered human remains at around 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

According to the police, they were contacted by the dog's owners after it emerged from the woods during a walk with what has now been confirmed to be a human bone.

Police are now searching the area near Imperial Drive and West 16th Avenue. However, recent snowfall and the thick forest underbrush is slowing them down.

Human remains have been found in Pacific Spirit Park before — in 2012, the body of 47-year-old missing woman Violet Puskas was found, after which investigators ruled out foul play.

The BC Coroners service is now involved in the case.
