Update Wednesday, April 26, 6:30 pm: The search on April 25 was later cancelled. According to a comment by Angelica Medina in a Facebook group called Missing UBC Student (Louis Gonick), this decision was made because the search party did not "have access to the information [it] needs to print for the updated posters."
Yesterday, the UBC Ecuadorian Students Association (ESA) began a search party for missing student Louis Gonick. The search was set to continue today at 4 pm.
The search party departed from UBC for Stanley Park, the location where Gonick was last seen on April 16. While the original RCMP release says that Gonick was last seen at UBC, this information was provided by the RCMP according to Carla Bonifaz, an ESA member.
According to a post by María De Fátima Lazo in the Facebook group , the search party has covered "the left-hand side of the park from the Vancouver Aquarium up to the half part of the entire area." Today's search was supposed to focus on the other half of the park.
Gonick is described as a Hispanic male, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is approximately 5 feet 7 inches and 140 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark blue shirt, blue jeans, a dark blue jacket and a grey scarf.
Bonifaz estimated that the search party currently has fewer than 10 members.
“They need as many people as possible as the area needed to cover is huge,” said Reddit user HefetzHashud in an r/UBC subthread called “Missing Student: UPDATE in comments.”
Anyone who wants to join the search party is asked to contact Bonifaz by text message only at 604-368-0179. She also requested that the sender’s name and purpose are included in the message.
Anyone with further information about this missing person is asked to contact the UBC RCMP at 604-224-1322 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (File number 2017-1131).
