VP admin candidate Ian Caguiat's campaign suspended for 24 hours

VP administration candidate Ian Caguiat's campaign has been suspended for 24 hours.

According to a statement from the AMS Elections Committee sent to The Ubyssey, Caguiat “invited multiple Facebook friends, including a polling officer” to an event organized by another candidate.

The committee wrote that Caguiat self-reported the mistake to the committee, and the committee unanimously decided on the suspension.

“We have unanimously determined that this constitutes 'slate-like behaviour' which is an intermediate campaign violation and "Unauthorized Contact with the Elections Committee," which is a minor campaign violation,” the committee wrote.

In a message to The Ubyssey, Caguiat said the invitations were an "accident" and that he will be using the campaign suspension time to prepare for an upcoming assignment.

The suspension lasts from March 6 at 7 p.m. to March 7 at 7 p.m.

The Elections Committee decided the other candidate involved was not a part of the violation. The committee did not provide the name of the other candidate.
