Georgia Yee will join Max Holmes on Board of Governors next year

Incumbent Max Holmes and current AMS VP Academic and University Affairs Georgia Yee have won the two student representative seats on the Board of Governors.

The two beat out competitors Dante Agosti-Moro, Arezoo Alemzadeh Mehrizi and Damir Korniiashik.

This will be Holmes’s third year on the Board. He campaigned on a platform of affordability, improved campus infrastructure and anti-racism initiatives. He placed a special emphasis on the need for continuity on the Board — he was the only incumbent in the running.

“I am just humbled by the trust students have put in me,” Holmes said.

“A huge shout out to the two governors who are leaving, both Jeanie [Malone] and Jassim [Naqvi] have been amazing and … it’s not gonna be the same Board without them, but I really look forward to working with Georgia,” he said.

Yee campaigned on a platform of equity and affordability, online learning, climate action and student support. This will be Yee’s first year on the Board as she leaves the AMS.

Yee said she felt “elated” to be elected. She said she’ll prioritize supporting the work of the Climate Emergency Task Force and equity, diversity and inclusion.

“I’m really honoured that students have chosen me for the Board of Governors so that I can also ensure that a lot of these [climate emergency] recommendations are supported,” she said.
