PSA: You can play a part in choosing UBC's next president

UBC is inviting students, faculty and staff input for its presidential search, according to a UBC broadcast message.

In October 2022, former President and Vice-Chancellor Santa Ono left UBC for the same role at the University of Michigan.

The Presidential Search Committee — which is responsible for recommending a candidate for the role of president and vice-chancellor to the Board of Governors — is looking for input from students, faculty and staff through an online survey and open forums, wrote UBC Chancellor Steven Point in the broadcast.

The search committee is chaired by Point and includes Board of Governors chair Nancy McKenzie, AMS President Eshana Bhangu and other senators and student, faculty and staff representatives.

Students, faculty and staff can complete the anonymous survey online. The deadline for survey responses is February 23.

The open forums will take place in February both in-person and online.

“In order for this search to be successful, the Presidential Search Committee needs the input of our students, faculty and staff,” wrote Point.
