T-Birds 5-on-5: Lovebirds I

It's everyone’s favourite holiday! We thought it would be a good idea to resurrect the special two-part Valentine’s Day edition of our T-Birds 5-on-5 series. Not only are most of these athletes single and ready to mingle, but we were also able to dig up some dirt on the best campus spots (and workouts!) to share with your dates in 2017.

We were lucky enough to have some athletes exclusively spill which T-Birds are killing the squat game. Who knows? Maybe The Ubyssey will create another couple this time around.

Panel

Emily Overholt (EO): swimming

Gabby Switzer (GS): field hockey

Georgia Braunstein (GB): soccer

Nicole Drummond (ND): rugby

Stephanie MacKinnon (SM): rugby

1) Where can you find the best date food on campus?

EO: McDonalds’ all-day breakfast starting February 21!

GS: The best date food on campus is the pizza from Mercante. It's the best pizza on campus and there's a fireplace. What could be more romantic than a pizza and a fireplace?

GB: Chinese food at the International Food Court.

ND: Pizza garden. It’s delicious, cheap and thin crust, which means it's healthy.

SM: Any kind of pizza from Mercante!

2) What are some dating deal-breakers?

EO: Plays golf… or baseball.

GS: Deal breakers [are] frosted tips, no sense of humour, Trump supporter.

GB: Bad hygiene and boring personality.

ND: When someone says “you don't look like a rugby player.” Is that supposed to be a compliment? Or “so is women's rugby full contact?” OBVIOUSLY.

SM: Dating a NARP — Non-Athletic Regular Person.

3) What would you say is your best quality? What about your worst quality?

EO: Best quality — all of them, but mostly my Instagram (follow me @emilyoverholt). Worst quality — none of them.

GS: My best quality is my Australian accent. My worst quality is my British accent.

GB: Best — good sense of humour. Worst — hot mess.

ND: Best — roster creeping. Worst — drawing a blank.

SM: Best quality is my irresistible blue eyes and my worst quality is that I don't have any.

4) Enlighten us — what is the official best rom-com of all time?

EO: No doubt the best rom-com of all time is the highlight reel from UBC football winning the Vanier Cup in 2015.

GS: The best rom-com is Romeo + Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio. I love that guy.

GB: 10 Things I Hate About You — the scene where he sings “I Love You Baby” to Kat at the stadium.

ND: Does Aladdin count? It has a great soundtrack.

SM: 50 First Dates!

5) Which T-Bird are you secretly (or not-so-secretly) crushing on and what would you like them to know?

EO: I might be crushing on a certain bouncer at The Bimini and, you know, I think we would be perfect for each other. You know, he rows, she throws? Java-Liz and Ray Bell. Well, he’s a bouncer at Bims, so… she swims, he Bims?

GS: I can't say that I'm crushing on any particular T-Bird right now, but HMU.

GB: Connor Noble on baseball and I’ll show you fitness.

ND: Secretly crushing on a former T-Bird rugby player. Maybe one day CQ will notice me.

SM: Any T-Bird taller than 5’10”.
