Blue Chip Express closed indefinitely in December 2023 for renovations.
“Blue Chip Express was initially opened due to student demand, and was a temporary solution for the long lines at the main outlet,” wrote AMS VP Admin Ian Caguiat in a statement to The Ubyssey.
Caguiat said the Blue Chip Express closure was due to the space needing heating system upgrades.
“We were at the time anticipating that we would be moving to the new location soon and so rather than choosing to invest more money into upgrading a space, we decided to close it," said Caguiat.
Blue Chip was set to move to the old Pie R squared location by summer 2023, but has been delayed due to construction issues.
Caguiat wrote the repeated delays on opening the new location are “to do with structural plans as the selected fabricator had challenges with welding the steel beams to columns inside the building, which resulted in a partial redesign.”
While Caguiat said there is no official plan to replace Blue Chip Express, the new Blue Chip space is meant to be completed by the end of term according to an update from Justin Lieu, the AMS managing director.
