Love, Land & Spirit: Exploring Indigeneity through the podcast medium

Thanks to the diligent work of a cast of Indigenous youth writers and hosts in collaboration with UBC’s Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre (IRSHDC), the first episode of a new Indigenous-led podcast series called Love, Land & Spirit is set to be released on February 3.

The episodes of Love, Land & Spirit seek to explore different aspects of Indigeneity, including but not limited to the topics of Indigenous connections, culture and communities. Through presenting and encouraging healthy dialogue and discourse, the podcast aims to celebrate Indigenous excellence and create discussion between youth and Indigenous knowledge-holders.

Episode one of this podcast series, titled “We are the Main Characters,” explores the topic of 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigiqueer identities. The following episodes will delve into other aspects of Indigeneity such as varying Indigenous arts and cultures, the intriguing connections between food, medicine, healing and sovereignty and the power of Indigenous storytelling.

Though the team of hosts that guide the discussions within each episode is made up of Indigenous students, listeners of Love, Land & Spirit will also have the chance to hear from a myriad of other potent voices, such as Indigenous educators, artists, activists and even a TikTok content creator from Treaty Six Territory.

The creators of Love, Land & Spirit acknowledge and thank the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish peoples on whose traditional, ancestral and unceded territories this podcast series was produced.
