Go Global cancels term two exchanges

Go Global exchanges for term two have been cancelled.

Citing the Canadian government’s global travel advisory, Go Global announced this decision in an email to students on Wednesday night.

“This decision has been made in adherence to UBC's Student Safety Abroad Policy which restricts travel to destinations where the Canadian government officially advises against travel,” the email read.

Students who have been matched to an exchange in their own country will be able to continue as long as they have medical insurance in that country. Those students must fill out this survey by Friday, December 17.

Students are also able to defer their exchange to the 2022/23 academic year. Those students must fill out this survey by January 10, 2022.

All other students will be refunded their Go Global fee. Other non-refundable costs related to planning for exchange will not be refunded by the university.

“We know this will be extremely disappointing for many students especially this close to the end of the term and departure for your program. You have worked hard to prepare for your exchange. We share your disappointment and sincerely hope that there will be an opportunity for you to participate in a Go Global program in the future,” the email read.

Go Global has not sent any students on exchanges since early 2020.
