Red Engineering Jacket disqualified from race for AMS president

The Red Engineering Jacket has been disqualified from the race for AMS president.

In an email sent to The Ubyssey, the AMS Elections Committee said it decided unanimously this morning to disqualify the Jacket from the race after committing multiple campaign violations.

The committee listed several minor violations the Jacket committed, including not submitting a bio or candidate information on time and not completing a Candidate Agreement and Acknowledgement Form.

“It is a requirement that all candidates must communicate with the Committee promptly, agree to follow the rules of the election, and submit candidate materials as soon as possible,” the Elections Committee wrote. “The candidate has yet to do this as a candidate despite our contacting them on multiple occasions.”

The committee also said the Jacket failed to attend the All-Candidates meeting or attend an alternative All-Candidates time, which constituted a serious campaign violation.

According to the statement from the Elections Committee, a member of the Jacket’s campaign requested the candidate be withdrawn from the race, but the committee never received an official withdrawal email.

The Red Engineering Jacket was one of three joke candidates running for AMS president this year alongside ChatGPT and returning candidate Remy the Rat. AMS VP Administration Ben Du and Indigenous Councillor Koda Tootoosis are also running for the position.

The Red Engineering Jacket did not respond to a request for comment by publication time.
