University Boulevard closed due to fallen trees, interrupting UBC bus lines

Update at 8:25 a.m. on November 8: Translink provided alternative bus routes for the 4, 14 and 99 in a press release this morning as University Boulevard remains closed.

The 4 and 14 routes will end at the Blanca Loop where students can then take the 99 to campus. Shuttle busses will also be added between the Blanca Loop and UBC, Translink said.

University Boulevard is closed to traffic after several trees between Acadia Road and Blanca Street fell onto the road, according to a DriveBC Twitter update from 5:29 a.m. this morning.

The road, along with the westbound lane of Chancellor Boulevard, has been closed since Saturday night.

The trees fell due to strong winds in the Lower Mainland over the weekend. Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Monday night and Tuesday for 70–90 km/hour winds in Metro Vancouver.

In a press release sent to The Ubyssey this morning, TransLink announced that the 4, 14 and 99 bus routes from UBC have been rerouted by the road closure.

“Please be advised that bus service on routes 004, 014, 099 will be diverted from University Blvd through W 16th Ave with traditional buses,” the press release reads.

“Our crews are working hard to restore service as they wait for the City of Vancouver to clear the large number of fallen trees,” TransLink wrote. “We have been advised, this could take several days, until regular access is opened to traffic on this route.”
