When asked whether he attended yesterday’s meeting, board member David Sidoo responded, “Yes, I was. I was at the phone, on the conference call. Most of us were.” Other board members could not be reached for comment.

The protesters have three main demands: a greater emphasis on transparency and openness at the Board of Governors level, a proper documentation process of all meetings and sub-committees, and an independent external review of Board practices.
The protest was organized by a grassroots group of faculty "who have had enough of the kind of bad governance that goes on at this university," said Mark Mac Lean, president of the faculty association and also the first to speak to the crowd.
While the “divestment criteria” from the Finance Committee's report asserted that there was a proven rationale to the decision, it also said that divestment was not an effective way to achieve the desired outcome.
Ron Gordesky, the student services manager, approached a student-run development company at UVic to provide software for Safewalk. While the new program has allowed Safewalk to keep up demand, the larger issue of consistently rising usage remains.
The option to enter the comp sci major directly from high school has been removed. Students wishing to enter the program must now complete a general first year in the Faculty of Science before applying to major in computer science.
Perch has been open to the public since last September. Although details about the establishment’s finances are confidential, recent AMS council meetings have indicated that the restaurant has been losing significant amounts of money.
“Replacing the student information system is one of the largest system replacements at the university because it is so core to everything that the institution is involved with,” said Jennifer Burns, UBC's chief information officer.
UBC faculty members have signed a petition asking that the Faculty Association "bring a motion to its membership expressing no confidence in the UBC Board of Governors." The last month has highlighted a number of concerns for the FA and others.
Pride members noticed that the flag was missing this morning and contacted UBC Equity and Inclusion office to ask if they knew about the disappearance. Upon investigation, the office found remnants of the scorched flag still attached to the pole.
As requested by Mayor Gregor Robertson, the city of Vancouver is showing solidarity in the form of flying the rainbow flag outside City Hall in response to the event, according to a tweet from the mayor’s office earlier today.
“The leadership of the university has the full support of UBC’s deans,” said the leaders of the faculties in a letter obtained by The Ubyssey. They reiterated their commitment to research and teaching at UBC.
“We don't know if it’s a hate crime or not. We have nothing to say that it is a hate crime right yet. There’s no motivating factor yet to determine if it’d be a hate crime,” said Sergeant Drew Grainger of the RCMP.
The money will fund a variety of new ventures, including research trips to Asia to source more specimens for the garden, international internships for students and a substantial expansion to the garden itself.
From February 9 to 10, researchers, developers, clinicians and young people gathered to consider new possibilities for mental health. Topics ranged from the creation of web-based tools for education and campus resources for youth mental health.
