Incumbent Georgia Yee is seeking a second term on UBC’s Board of Governors to push for holistic affordability, equity and better student health, safety and career services.
Georgia Yee is running for re-election to the Senate on a platform that encompasses Indigenous issues, affordability, and both student and climate health.
The fourth-year biology student’s platform centres equity across prongs of affordability, online learning, climate action and support for students writ large.
Yee emphasized that equity, diversity and inclusion underlie her platform priorities. She also acknowledged the role the pandemic had in upending the university’s “normal.”
Halfway into her term, Yee has been working on advocating for students in pandemic response and recovery while making slower progress on backburner goals of addressing anti-racism and sexual assault prevention.
With experience from residence life, Yee has defeated Harresh Thayakaanthan, Zoe McDaniel and Reed Garvin in the VPAUA special election held after all candidates dropped out of the original race.
The third-year biology major said that her community-building experience as a residence advisor will help her advance her extensive platform of affordability, accessibility and equity.
