Financial plan referenda question passes

The sole referenda question on this year’s ballot passed.

Proposed by the AMS, the referenda question asked for the amendment of bylaw 11 and for the VP finance to create a three-year financial plan for the society every three years.

It passed with 90.2 per cent of the vote, which is 8322 votes in favor.

AMS Interim President Ben Du spoke to the significance of this referenda item passing.

“This is a huge moment for financial stability for the organization,” Du said.

He noted that the AMS has had a few “rough year,” but that this referenda works as a “turning moment” for fiscal responsibility. This year, the AMS anticipated a $738,000 deficit for the 2023/24 budget.

“I can’t wait to get started.”
