Born into a family of carvers, Dick learned the art form first form his father, grandfather and uncle. He was then mentored by former UBC artists in residence Bill Reid and Doug Cranmer at Totem Park Residence.

UBC, like all academic institutions, sees cases of plagiarism every year. It makes up the bulk of the 72 academic misconduct cases listed in the last discipline report, which tracked academic and nonacademic misconduct at UBC from 2013 to 2014.

The UBC Campus Security team alone is made up of close to 100 staff, which includes patrol officers and administration. Eccleton would not disclose the number of patrol officers on campus at any given time, reportedly for security reasons.

Tamar Simon is a fairy queen. That’s not because she stands 3 ft tall — she doesn’t — but because of her royal stage presence and transcendent voice. But while her flame burns brightly as ever, Simon is worried about the future of opera in general.
“I always find it amazing that he found time to sleep — his diary pages are almost always full of engagements, things to do. Sometimes what he writes for a particular day will go for five, eight or 10 messages — of 140 characters each of course.”
"I'm around the pool all the time," he said – truthfully as even our interview was conducted poolside. "When I’m not here I'd rather get outside, get some fresh air. I don't really want to spend any longer than I need to."
They faced their difficulties. Their first changing room was previously a men’s “clothes-drying” room, and they weren’t allowed to use some of the rowing equipment. Women were only allowed to race a thousand metres.
"Uber has been running an aggressive and prolonged public lobbying campaign urging the provincial government and the City of Vancouver to allow them to operate. They have significant resources and it shows."
